How Many Days Should I Spend on Elafonisos?

Elafonisos covers well over two days for the main beaches, and three to four let a boat trip around the coastline and the quieter southern coves settle into a proper rhythm.

Elafonisos fills a first day easily around Simos, the island's signature beach, splitting into two connected bays, Megalos Simos and the smaller Mikros Simos, separated by dunes lined with rare sea cedars. The water here holds its turquoise color across a stretch wide enough that even peak summer crowds spread out without much trouble.

A second day belongs to Kato Nisi, on the island's opposite side, and Panagia, a small islet reachable by boat and worth pairing with a picnic lunch along the coastline. The white church of Agios Spyridon, connected to shore by a short bridge, ranks among the island's more photographed sights, especially at sunset.

A third day suits a boat tour around the full island, the most efficient way to see quieter beaches and geological features like the Cave of Karandreas, along with a stop to snorkel above Pavlopetri, a submerged city off the coast believed to be around 5,000 years old.

A fourth day works well for renting a bike or scooter to reach Pouda beach, or for a day trip to Monemvasia, the medieval fortress town on the mainland, easily combined given how short the ferry crossing back to Neapoli runs.

Elafonisos connects only by ferry from Pounda, near Neapoli, a crossing of about 20 minutes that carries cars, so arriving early during peak season matters given how long the vehicle line can run.
