How Many Days Should I Spend on Lefkada?

Lefkada covers well over three to four days for the west coast beaches, and five to seven let the villages, east coast coves, and mountain drives spread out at a proper pace.

Lefkada fills a first day easily in Lefkada Town, sitting on a sandy spit between a lagoon and the strait, with a medieval castle visible right at the causeway connecting the island to the mainland. Agios Ioannis, a short drive out, gives an easy first stop for windsurfing, and Agios Nikitas, a village with plenty of facilities nearby, works well for lunch.

A second day belongs to the island's most photographed beaches. Porto Katsiki, reached by roughly 100 steps carved into the cliff, and Egremni, rebuilt with a 350-step staircase after the 2015 earthquake, both anchor a day spent moving along the west coast, with Kathisma and Agiofili rounding out the stretch for anyone wanting more than two stops.

A third day suits the mountain villages inland, since a full loop by car covers most of the island within a day and a half, and Athani, close to the west coast beaches, makes a good lunch stop with views over the terrain the road climbs through.

A fourth or fifth day works well for a boat trip around the coastline to reach coves inaccessible by road, along with the emerald-green water on the island's east side, a different character from the cliffside beaches on the west. Lefkada also connects to Kefalonia by ferry for anyone extending the trip further into the Ionian.

Three days cover Lefkada Town and the main beaches comfortably, five brings the mountain villages and east coast into the trip properly, and seven lets the boat trips and quieter corners round things out fully. Even a short three-day visit gives a real sense of the island's cliffs and coastline, but Lefkada's range between beaches, villages, and coastal drives gives genuine reason to plan for a full week.
