Is Anafi Expensive?

Anafi stays genuinely affordable for a Cyclades island, and even its busiest month, August, brings nothing close to the crowds or costs found on Santorini or Mykonos nearby.

Anafi keeps accommodation, food, and daily costs low compared to its more famous neighbors, and family-run tavernas across the island tend to offer straightforward, reasonably priced meals rather than the polished, higher-margin dining found on busier islands. Self-catering with produce from local shops brings costs down further for anyone staying more than a few days, and simple double rooms remain widely available outside the peak summer weeks.

The island's small local bus connects Chora, the port, and the main beaches affordably, giving budget-conscious travelers an easy way to get around without renting a car, though renting one does open up more of the island for anyone wanting the flexibility.

August remains the exception to Anafi's overall affordability, since prices climb and rooms fill up as the island's population swells considerably beyond its year-round total, even if the crowds still stay far lighter than what nearby Santorini sees. Visiting in the shoulder months, spring or early autumn, brings both prices and crowds down noticeably while keeping the weather comfortable for swimming and hiking.

Ferry connections through Santorini add a modest but real cost to reaching Anafi, since the island has no airport of its own, and factoring that crossing into the overall trip budget matters more here than for islands with more direct routes.

Anafi suits budget-conscious travelers wanting a genuinely low-key, affordable version of the Cyclades experience, connecting easily through Santorini for anyone building a longer island-hopping trip.
