Is Anafi Good for Families?

Anafi keeps its best beaches close to the port and shallow, and the island's quiet, unhurried pace suits families who don't need much beyond the sea and a slow walk into the village. Yes, it works well for families, especially those prioritizing nature and quiet over built-in entertainment.

Anafi's Klisidi Beach, just a short walk from the port, gives the easiest option for families, with soft sand, turquoise water, and a handful of hotels close by. Megalos Roukounas, the island's largest and best known beach, runs more than 500 meters with fine sand and a shallow seabed, and it's the beach most locals point to as the top pick for anyone traveling with kids, with tamarisk trees offering shade.

Katsouni, near the small village of Kastro, gives calm water good for swimming and snorkeling, and since there are no bars or clubs nearby, it stays quiet in a real way, an easy place to end the day watching the sunset without noise competing for attention. Kastro itself is car-free, and kids can wander its narrow lanes freely while adults relax at one of the tavernas.

A few practical notes matter here: entertainment options stay limited by design, and Chora's steep terrain makes the village difficult to manage with a stroller, so a baby carrier works far better for younger kids. Most of Anafi's other beaches remain unorganized, without shade or facilities, so families venturing beyond Klisidi and Roukounas should bring their own supplies.

Anafi connects by ferry through Santorini, a short crossing that makes it easy to combine the two islands, and Easter here draws families specifically for the traditions and lush spring landscape.

Anafi suits families who want real quiet, shallow swimming close to the port, and a slower pace over organized activity, and it works especially well for families with kids old enough to handle a bit of walking and a lighter entertainment schedule.
