Elafonisos has no airport of its own, so most visitors connect through Kythira or drive down from Athens or Kalamata to reach the short ferry crossing from Pounda, and that ferry itself runs inexpensively for both foot passengers and cars. Accommodation ranges from simple rooms and studios to small family-run hotels, with camping at Simos giving budget travelers an even lower-cost option right beside the island's best known beach.

Sunbeds at Simos do carry a real cost, and bringing your own towel and setting up on the sand instead avoids that expense entirely, since much of the beach stays open and unorganized beyond the rented rows near the beach bars. Local tavernas around the port and near the beaches serve straightforward Greek dishes at reasonable prices, and self-catering with a kitchen, common at the island's apartment-style accommodation, helps cut food costs further for longer stays.

A car makes a real difference here, since Simos sits a few kilometers from the port and public transport options stay limited, so factoring a rental or bringing your own car on the ferry into the trip budget matters more on Elafonisos than on islands with a more developed bus network.

Only two ATMs exist on the island, one seasonal, so bringing enough cash for the length of a stay avoids any complications, and visiting in September brings lower prices and thinner crowds compared to the busier weeks of July and August.
