Is Rhodes Expensive?
Rhodes lands in a comfortable middle position on cost, noticeably cheaper than Santorini or Mykonos while running close to Crete or Corfu, and where a stay falls on that spectrum depends heavily on which part of the island you choose.
Rhodes offers a real range of accommodation, from simple budget hotels and hostels in Rhodes Town to five-star resorts along the coast, giving travelers real flexibility depending on how much they want to spend. Lindos carries a real premium over the rest of the island, since its whitewashed streets and clifftop views draw a more upscale crowd, while villages further from the busiest tourist circuit offer considerably better value for a comparable room.
Dining follows a similar split, since restaurants within the medieval Old Town's walls charge more than the tavernas just outside them, and eating where locals do rather than at the most photographed spots near major landmarks stretches a food budget noticeably further. Quick meals like gyros from smaller local spots give an easy, affordable alternative to a sit-down dinner every night.
Getting around the island stays reasonably priced, since the RODA and KTEL bus networks connect Rhodes Town to Lindos and other coastal villages affordably, though many residents and visitors alike find fuel costs and parking within the historic center enough of a hassle that a car isn't always worth the added expense for a shorter stay.
Visiting during the shoulder months of May, early June, or late September brings both prices and crowds down considerably, while keeping the sea warm enough for swimming.
Rhodes suits travelers wanting real medieval history, beaches, and nightlife without Santorini or Mykonos-level spending, and Rhodes's cost of living sits well below those two islands while staying close to what a trip to Crete or Corfu would typically run.
