Where Should I Stay on Andros?

Andros splits mainly between the resort town on the west coast and the capital on the east, and the choice comes down to beach convenience versus atmosphere and hiking access.

Andros's Batsi, on the western coast near the ferry port, gives the most convenient base for anyone without a car, with a sandy beach right in the harbor, a wide range of restaurants and shops, and reliable bus connections to the rest of the island. It suits travelers wanting a straightforward resort-style stay close to the water.

Chora, the island's capital on the northern coast, trades beach convenience for atmosphere, with a pedestrianized marble street, neoclassical mansions, and the Museum of Contemporary Art all within walking distance. It also anchors most of the island's hiking trails, making it the strongest base for anyone building the trip around Andros's waterfalls and walking routes rather than beach time.

For travelers who want to be near the ferry the moment they arrive, staying close to Gavrio port itself works well for a short overnight, with Batsi just a few minutes further along the coast for anyone wanting more restaurants and nightlife nearby.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Andros span Batsi, Chora, and the area near Gavrio, so the choice comes down to whether beach access, atmosphere, or hiking matters most.

Andros has no airport, so most travelers arrive by ferry through Rafina near Athens or via a connection through Tinos, and it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. Batsi suits most first-time visitors, Chora suits hikers and anyone wanting atmosphere, and staying near Gavrio suits those prioritizing easy arrival.
