Where Should I Stay on Donoussa?

Donousa keeps the decision fairly simple, since the island's small size means the real choice is between the main village and the quieter settlements further out.

Donousa's Stavros, the main port and village, gives the most convenient base, with tavernas, mini markets, the island's only ATM, and walking access to Kedros Beach and several hiking trails all close by. It suits most first-time visitors and anyone wanting everything within reach on foot, and nearly all of the island's accommodation, mostly small studios and family-run guesthouses rather than large hotels, sits here.

Mersini and Kalotaritissa, on the island's eastern side, trade that convenience for real seclusion, with limited and more basic accommodation surrounded by nature rather than shops. Reaching them usually means a hike or a scooter, and the payoff is quieter beaches and clearer night skies for anyone who wants that kind of stay.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Donousa cover Stavros and the quieter eastern settlements, so the choice comes down to convenience versus real isolation.

Donousa has no airport, and most travelers connect through Naxos or Amorgos by ferry, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets well ahead of a July or August visit, since the island's limited rooms fill up quickly. Stavros suits most first-time visitors and anyone wanting convenience, while Mersini and Kalotaritissa suit travelers seeking a quieter, more remote stay.
