Where Should I Stay on Mykonos?

Mykonos splits across a handful of real bases, and the choice comes down to nightlife, family convenience, beach access, or a quieter pace.

Mykonos's Chora, the island's capital, gives the most convenient base for first-time visitors, with Little Venice, the windmills, and the island's best nightlife and restaurants all within walking distance. It suits travelers who want to step outside after dark and be in the middle of the island's evening energy, though rooms here run smaller and pricier during peak season.

Ornos, a short drive from Chora, gives a calmer, more family-friendly setting, with a protected beach, easy bus connections back to town, and boat trips to Delos departing nearby. It suits families or anyone wanting a quieter base without losing quick access to the capital.

Platis Gialos, further along the south coast, centers on one of the island's most developed beaches, with water taxis running to Paradise, Super Paradise, and other south coast coves. It suits travelers building the trip around beach hopping rather than staying in one spot.

Agios Ioannis, on the western coast, trades beach clubs for quieter sunsets and a more romantic pace, making it a strong choice for couples wanting a calmer evening than Chora or the busier south coast beaches offer.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Mykonos span Chora, Ornos, Platis Gialos, and Agios Ioannis, so the choice comes down to nightlife, family convenience, beach access, or quiet.

Mykonos has its own airport, and travelers arriving by ferry should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer trip, since routes through Tinos and Paros fill up quickly. Chora suits first-timers and nightlife seekers, Ornos suits families, Platis Gialos suits beach-focused stays, and Agios Ioannis suits couples wanting quiet.
