Where Should I Stay on Paxos?
Paxos splits across three small harbor villages, and the choice comes down to nightlife and convenience, family-friendly swimming, or a quieter, traditional pace.
Paxos's Gaios, the main port and capital, gives the most convenient base for first-time visitors and anyone without a car, with the widest range of tavernas, cafes, shops, and boat trips to Antipaxos departing right from the harbor. Evenings stay active here, and daytime crowds from Corfu's day-trip boats thin out considerably by late afternoon.
Lakka, at the island's northern tip, centers on a horseshoe-shaped bay with shallow, calm water well suited to families and a strong reputation among sailors for its protected anchorage. It suits travelers wanting beach access and a laid-back evening scene without Gaios's daytime activity.
Loggos, between the other two, gives the most traditional feel, a small fishing village with waterfront tavernas and pebble beaches reachable on foot. It suits couples and travelers wanting a slower pace and easier access to walking trails along the coast.
Since Paxos is small enough to cross in twenty to thirty minutes by car, any of the three villages puts the whole island within easy reach, so the choice comes down more to atmosphere than logistics.
Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Paxos span Gaios, Lakka, and Loggos, so the choice comes down to nightlife, family swimming, or a quieter village pace.
Paxos has no airport, and travelers arriving by ferry from Corfu or Igoumenitsa should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit, and a short water taxi from Gaios also reaches Antipaxos. Gaios suits most first-time visitors, Lakka suits families and sailors, and Loggos suits couples wanting a quieter, more traditional stay.
