Where Should I Stay on Santorini?

Santorini splits mainly along the caldera cliffs and the flatter east coast, and the choice comes down to views, convenience, or beach access.

Santorini's Fira, the capital, gives the most convenient base, since nearly every bus route on the island passes through it, putting restaurants, shops, and nightlife within walking distance of the transport hub. It suits first-time visitors who don't want the hassle of driving and want caldera views alongside easy access to the rest of the island.

Oia, at the island's northern tip, gives the classic image most people picture when they think of Santorini, with cascading white architecture and sunsets that draw crowds every evening. It suits travelers prioritizing romance and iconic views over practicality, since it sits furthest from the ferry port and other towns.

Imerovigli, between Fira and Oia, gives the same caldera views with a quieter, more spacious feel, and it suits couples wanting the island's scenery without Fira's crowds or Oia's density.

Kamari and Perissa, on the flatter east coast, trade caldera views for direct beach access, larger rooms, and lower prices, with black volcanic sand that suits families or anyone prioritizing swimming over sunset views.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Santorini span Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, and the beach towns, so the choice comes down to views, convenience, or the sea.

Santorini has its own airport, and travelers arriving by ferry should check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit, since routes fill up in peak season. Fira suits first-timers wanting convenience, Oia suits those prioritizing views and romance, Imerovigli suits couples wanting quiet, and Kamari or Perissa suit families wanting beach access. Thirasia sits just across the caldera for anyone extending the trip.
