Where Should I Stay on Serifos?
Serifos splits mainly between the port town and the hilltop capital, with the island's beaches offering a third option for anyone wanting to base near the water.
Serifos's Livadi, the main port, gives the most convenient base, with a long sandy beach lined with tamarisk trees, easy bus connections up to Chora, and the widest range of tavernas and nightlife on the island. It suits first-time visitors and anyone wanting straightforward logistics without needing a car for the basics.
Chora, perched 200 meters above Livadi Bay, trades that convenience for atmosphere, with whitewashed houses, narrow alleys, and a 13th century castle giving some of the best sunset views in the Aegean. It suits travelers prioritizing traditional Cycladic character and evenings out, though reaching the beach means a bus ride, taxi, or a genuine climb back down.
Psili Ammos and the beaches toward Koutalas Bay, further from the port, give a beach-first base with a quieter, more remote setting, and they suit travelers who'd rather build the stay around swimming than village life, especially with a rental car for reaching the island's more remote coastline.
Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Serifos span Livadi, Chora, and the beaches further out, so the choice comes down to convenience, atmosphere, or the sea.
Serifos has no airport, and the ferry from Piraeus is the way in for nearly everyone, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit. Livadi suits most first-time visitors, Chora suits those wanting views and Cycladic character, and Psili Ammos or Koutalas suit beach-focused stays. Sifnos and Milos both sit close enough for island-hopping extensions.
