Where Should I Stay on Sikinos?

Sikinos keeps the decision fairly simple, since most travelers choose between the port village and the hilltop capital, and the two connect easily enough that either works.

Sikinos's Alopronia, the port village, holds most of the island's accommodation and sits right on its own sandy beach, with a handful of tavernas and cafes within walking distance. It suits travelers wanting a beach directly outside the door and easy access to boat trips reaching coves elsewhere on the island reachable only by sea.

Chora, the capital about four kilometers up from the port, trades beach access for atmosphere, with whitewashed houses, narrow lanes, and a small collection of restaurants and self-catering apartments. It suits travelers wanting traditional island life at the center of the stay, and an hourly bus connects the two settlements, with a roughly hour-long walk as an option for anyone who prefers to cover the distance on foot.

Since Sikinos stays intentionally quiet, with no real nightlife on the island, either base suits travelers looking to slow down, and a rental car or scooter from Alopronia makes it easy to reach Episkopi, the island's Roman-era mausoleum, or the beach at Agios Georgios further along the bus route.

Once a base is decided, hotels and places to stay on Sikinos span Alopronia and Chora, so the choice comes down to beach access versus village atmosphere.

Sikinos has no airport, and travelers connect by ferry through Ios or Folegandros, so it's worth taking time to check ferry schedules and book tickets ahead of a summer visit, since the island's limited accommodation sells out quickly. Alopronia suits travelers wanting beach access, and Chora suits those wanting traditional village life.
