Getting from Agathonisi to Astakos

If you are heading to Astakos from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to a port town on the western coast of central Greece, on the opposite side of the country. Astakos sits on a quiet bay surrounded by hills with good seafood tavernas along the waterfront.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Astakos. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then either driving or taking the KTEL bus to Astakos, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours from Athens via the E65 motorway and Agrinio. The nearest airport to Astakos is Preveza, around 1 hour 15 minutes away by road.

Astakos has no airport. The nearest airport is Preveza. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then driving to Astakos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and drive to Astakos. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, rent a car and drive northwest to Astakos via the E65 motorway.
