Getting from Agathonisi to Kasos

If you are heading to Kasos from Agathonisi you are making your way to the southernmost island in the Dodecanese group, further south via Rhodes. It has a maritime history that produced some of Greece's most celebrated sea captains and an authenticity that comes from being almost entirely off the tourist circuit.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Kasos. The most practical ferry approach is to take the direct ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes, which takes around 6 to 8 hours, and then connect to Kasos from Rhodes by local ferry, which takes around 3 to 4 hours. The total journey by sea takes around 10 to 12 hours but keeps you within the Dodecanese network without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Kasos has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kasos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes and connect to Kasos from there. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and avoids going through Athens entirely. If time matters, take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and then to Rhodes and connect to Kasos from there. Check the schedule carefully as the Kasos service runs a limited number of times per week.
