Getting from Agathonisi to Kos

If you are heading to Kos from Agathonisi you are making your way to one of the most popular islands in the Dodecanese group, further south. It is the birthplace of Hippocrates, with good beaches, a lively town and ancient ruins that are among the finest in the eastern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Agathonisi to Kos running around 4 times a week year-round, taking around 2 hours 25 to 30 minutes. It is one of the most straightforward connections within the Dodecanese network and avoids going through Athens entirely. Check the schedule before planning around it and build your travel dates around the available departures.

Getting there by air

Kos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Kos gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Agathonisi to Kos. At around 2.5 hours it is a manageable trip and keeps the journey within the Dodecanese without going through Athens. If time matters more than the sea journey, take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and fly to Kos via Athens.
