Getting from Agathonisi to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.

Take the ferry

Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes on the fast boat with several daily departures.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast and take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes.
