Getting from Agathonisi to Spetses

If you are heading to Spetses from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. It has neoclassical mansions around the harbour, a strong nautical tradition and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Spetses. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses, which takes around 1.5 to 3.5 hours with up to 10 daily departures. Note that Spetses is car-free so if you are travelling with a vehicle you would need to leave it at Piraeus or at the mainland port of Kosta.

Getting there by air

Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses. It is the most practical approach and with up to 10 daily departures from Piraeus you rarely need to book the Saronic connection far in advance.
