Getting from Agathonisi to Zakynthos

If you are heading to Zakynthos from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands, on the opposite side of Greece. It has Navagio Beach, the shipwreck cove with towering white cliffs and turquoise water that is one of the most photographed places in the Mediterranean.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Agathonisi to Zakynthos. No Dodecanese island is connected by sea to any Ionian island. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then either flying to Zakynthos or taking the KTEL bus and ferry combination via Kyllini, which takes around 6 hours in total from Athens.

Getting there by air

Both Zakynthos and the nearest airports to Agathonisi have connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Zakynthos, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and fly to Zakynthos via Athens. It is the only realistic approach for most travellers. If you are travelling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Kyllini and take the ferry across to Zakynthos, which at around 1 hour 15 minutes is a short and frequent connection.
