Getting from Agistri to Astakos

If you are heading to Astakos from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to a port town on the western coast of central Greece. Astakos sits on a quiet bay surrounded by hills and is the departure point for ferries to Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Astakos. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Astakos, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours from Athens via the E65 motorway and Agrinio.

Getting there by air

Astakos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and then driving to Astakos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. The nearest airport to Astakos itself is Preveza, around 70 kilometres to the north.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and drive to Astakos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Agistri already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive northwest to Astakos via the E65 motorway and Agrinio.
