Getting from Alexandroupoli to Skopelos

If you are heading to Skopelos from Alexandroupoli you are making your way to an island in the Sporades, in the northern Aegean. It has a densely forested coastline, a Chora of white houses and slate roofs climbing steeply above the port and over 120 churches.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Skopelos. Getting there by sea means driving to Volos or Mantoudi in northern Evia for the ferry to Skopelos. The drive from Alexandroupoli to Volos via the Egnatia motorway and E75 takes around 4.5 to 5 hours, and the ferry from Volos to Skopelos takes around 3 to 4 hours with daily departures in summer. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Skopelos.

Getting there by air

Skopelos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with connections from Athens and Thessaloniki. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Thessaloniki and then Thessaloniki to Skiathos, followed by the short ferry from Skiathos to Skopelos taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours and avoids Athens entirely.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Thessaloniki and then fly to Skiathos and take the ferry across to Skopelos. It is the most practical approach and avoids Athens entirely. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Alexandroupoli to Volos via the Egnatia motorway and take the ferry to Skopelos from there.
