Getting from Alonissos to Oinousses

If you are heading to Oinousses from Alonissos you are making your way from the most remote of the Sporades group to a small cluster of islands just off the northeastern coast of Chios in the northeastern Aegean. It has a naval tradition that produced a disproportionate share of Greece's great shipping dynasties and almost no tourist infrastructure.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alonissos to Oinousses. Oinousses is accessible only via Chios, with a daily local ferry from Chios main port taking around 1 hour. Getting there means taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then flying to Chios, followed by the local ferry across to Oinousses.

Getting there by air

Oinousses has no airport. The nearest airport is Chios. Alonissos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Chios, followed by the local ferry to Oinousses taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, fly to Athens and then fly to Chios and take the local ferry across to Oinousses. Check the daily ferry schedule from Chios before booking your flights and plan your Chios arrival around the afternoon departure. Give yourself at least two nights on Oinousses and bring everything you need with you.
