Getting from Alonissos to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Alonissos you are making your way from the most remote of the Sporades group to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alonissos to Piraeus. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Alonissos to Volos or Mantoudi and then driving to Piraeus, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Volos. Total journey by ferry and road takes around 6 to 8 hours depending on the vessel and port.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Alonissos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus, which takes around 20 to 45 minutes from Athens Airport, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours and is considerably faster than the sea and road combination.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, fly to Athens and take the metro or taxi to Piraeus. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Alonissos to Volos and drive to Piraeus via the E75 motorway and Athens, which takes around 6 to 7 hours in total.
