Getting from Alonissos to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Alonissos you are making your way from the most remote of the Sporades group to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alonissos to Poros. Getting there means taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures. Alternatively, take the ferry from Alonissos to Volos, drive to Piraeus and board the Saronic ferry to Poros.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Alonissos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Alonissos to Skiathos, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Alonissos to Volos, drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast and take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
