Getting from Amorgos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.

Take the ferry

The most practical ferry connection from Amorgos to Athens is the overnight ferry to Piraeus, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5.5 to 9.5 hours depending on the vessel. The conventional Blue Star ferry is comfortable with cabins available and arrives in the morning. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry departs from before making your way to the island's transport.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos and then flying to Athens takes around 40 to 45 minutes in the air. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours and is the most practical approach if you need to get to Athens quickly.

Your best option

Take the overnight ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus. It is comfortable, saves a night's accommodation and you arrive in Athens in the morning with the day ahead. If you are in a hurry, take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos and fly to Athens. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus is the only practical choice as it takes your vehicle directly to Athens.
