Getting from Amorgos to Kastellorizo

If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Amorgos you are making one of the longer journeys in the Greek island world, from the most eastern of the Cyclades to the easternmost point of Greece, a tiny island just off the Turkish coast with a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos to Kastellorizo running in summer on the wider Blue Star route that connects the Cyclades with the Dodecanese. The service runs a limited number of times per week and takes around 12 to 18 hours stopping at multiple islands along the way. It is a long sea journey but keeps the route within the island network without going through Athens. Check the schedule carefully before planning around it.

Getting there by air

Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Amorgos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, fly to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kastellorizo by air or local ferry. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Give yourself at least two nights on Kastellorizo. The island is small enough to walk around in an afternoon and extraordinary enough to make you want to stay much longer.
