Getting from Amorgos to Lesvos

If you are heading to Lesvos from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to the third largest island in Greece, in the northeastern Aegean. It is the birthplace of Sappho, an island of olive groves, ouzo distilleries and a capital at Mytilini with a Byzantine castle and one of the most enjoyable waterfronts in the northern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Amorgos to Lesvos. The two islands are in completely different parts of the Aegean with no sea connection between them. Getting there means taking the ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus and then boarding the overnight Piraeus to Lesvos ferry, which runs up to 8 times a week and takes around 10 to 14 hours. The total journey takes the better part of two days. Flying is considerably more practical.

Getting there by air

Lesvos has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Amorgos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Lesvos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, fly to Athens and then fly to Lesvos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Lesvos ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
