Getting from Amorgos to Sikinos

If you are heading to Sikinos from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to one of the lesser talked about islands in the group, relatively close in island-hopping terms. It has a Chora perched on a ridge above the port and an atmosphere of genuine calm that sets it apart from its more visited neighbours.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos to Sikinos running in summer on the wider Cyclades route. The crossing takes around 3 to 5 hours depending on the vessel and stops. Alternatively, take the ferry from Amorgos to Santorini and then the short ferry from Santorini to Sikinos, which takes around 2 to 3 hours. Check the schedule carefully as the direct service runs a limited number of times per week.

Getting there by air

Sikinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Amorgos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Santorini and then the short ferry to Sikinos is considerably more practical than flying for this island connection. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct seasonal ferry from Amorgos to Sikinos when the schedule works for your dates. It keeps the journey within the Cyclades and avoids going through Athens entirely. If the direct service does not align, take the ferry from Amorgos to Santorini and cross to Sikinos from there. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Amorgos to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Sikinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
