Getting from Amorgos to Tilos

If you are heading to Tilos from Amorgos you are making your way from the most eastern of the Cyclades to an island in the Dodecanese group, the first island in the Mediterranean to run entirely on renewable energy with good walking trails and a wild coastline.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos to Tilos running in summer on the wider Blue Star route that connects the Cyclades with the Dodecanese. The service runs a limited number of times per week so check the schedule carefully. The crossing takes around 8 to 12 hours depending on the vessel and stops along the way, but keeps the journey within the island network without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Tilos has no airport. The nearest airports are Rhodes and Kos. Amorgos has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes, followed by the local ferry from Rhodes to Tilos taking around 2 to 3 hours, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Amorgos to Naxos, fly to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and take the local ferry across to Tilos. It is the most practical approach for most travelers. If you prefer to travel by sea, check whether the seasonal direct ferry from Amorgos aligns with your dates as it avoids Athens entirely.
