Getting from Andros to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the most eastern of the group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Andros to Amorgos running in summer on the wider Blue Star route that connects the northern and southern Cyclades. The journey takes around 7 to 10 hours with stops along the way through Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. Alternatively, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, make your way to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry gives a total journey time of around 8 to 10 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct seasonal ferry from Andros to Amorgos when the schedule works for your dates. It is the most enjoyable approach and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades. If the timing does not align, take the ferry from Andros to Rafina, make your way to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm.
