Getting from Andros to Naxos

If you are heading to Naxos from Andros you are making your way from the northernmost island in the Cyclades to the largest island in the group, a natural progression south through the island chain. It has a medieval Venetian town above the port, long sandy beaches on the west coast and a mountainous interior of marble villages.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Andros to Naxos running several times daily in summer, operating south through Tinos and Mykonos before reaching Naxos. The total crossing takes around 3.5 to 5.5 hours from Gavrio port on Andros. It is one of the most natural island hopping connections from Andros and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades.

Getting there by air

Naxos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Andros has no airport either. Taking the ferry from Andros to Rafina, flying to Athens and then Athens to Naxos takes around 40 to 45 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Andros south through Tinos and Mykonos to Naxos. It is the most natural and enjoyable connection and delivers you directly to Naxos Town port. The arrival with the Portara temple doorframe visible from the water is one of the great Cycladic arrivals and is reason enough to take the ferry over the flight. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional Blue Star ferry takes your vehicle directly to the island.
