Getting from Antikythera to Kastellorizo

If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Antikythera you are making your way between two of the most remote and extraordinary islands in Greece, from the southern Aegean to the easternmost point of the country just off the Turkish coast. Kastellorizo has a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Kastellorizo. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Getting to Kastellorizo by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus and then boarding the Piraeus to Kastellorizo ferry, which runs 6 times a week and takes around 20 to 22 hours stopping at multiple Dodecanese islands. The total journey takes the better part of three days.

Getting there by air

Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kastellorizo by air or local ferry. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Give yourself at least two nights on Kastellorizo. The island is small enough to walk around in an afternoon and extraordinary enough to make you want to stay much longer.
