Getting from Antikythera to Kythira

If you are heading to Kythira from Antikythera you are making the most natural and straightforward connection from the island, to the closest major island just to the north. Kythira has stone villages, deep gorges, a Venetian castle above Chora and a coastline of turquoise coves.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Antikythera to Kythira running almost year-round, taking around 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. It is the primary connection from Antikythera and the most effortless hop in this part of the Aegean. The service runs several times a week so check the schedule before planning around it as your travel dates need to align with the available departures.

Getting there by air

Kythira has its own small airport with daily connections from Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. The direct ferry to Kythira is the only realistic option for this short connection and at under 2 hours it is one of the most effortless island hops in the southern Aegean.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Antikythera to Kythira. It is fast, relatively frequent and the most natural connection from the island. From Kythira you can fly to Athens or continue by ferry to Piraeus for onward connections. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry takes your vehicle directly to Kythira.
