Getting from Antikythera to Lemnos

If you are heading to Lemnos from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to an island in the northern Aegean, in a completely different part of the Greek island world. Lemnos has long sandy beaches, a Byzantine castle above the harbour at Myrina and some of the best Muscat wine in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Lemnos. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Getting to Lemnos by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus and then boarding the long Piraeus to Lemnos ferry, which runs around 3 times a week via multiple northern Aegean islands and takes around 12 to 15 hours. The total journey takes the better part of three days and flying is considerably more practical.

Getting there by air

Lemnos has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then Athens to Lemnos takes around 1 hour in the air. Total journey time is around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and then fly to Lemnos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. Lemnos Airport is around 22 kilometres from Myrina so factor in a taxi on arrival. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Lemnos ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
