Getting from Antikythera to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of the country. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Poros. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Getting to Poros means taking the ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus, which takes around 9 hours, and then boarding the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures. Alternatively, take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus, drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast and take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
