Getting from Antikythera to Thassos

If you are heading to Thassos from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to the northernmost island in the country, in the northern Aegean close to the Macedonian coast. The two are about as far apart geographically as it is possible to be within Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Thassos. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Thassos is connected only to Kavala and Keramoti on the northern mainland. Getting there means taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then flying to Kavala, followed by a taxi to the port and the ferry across to Thassos taking around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Getting there by air

Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then Athens to Kavala, followed by a taxi to the port and the ferry across to Thassos, gives a total journey time of around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and then fly to Kavala and take the ferry across to Thassos. With ferries running almost hourly from Kavala in summer you rarely need to book the final crossing in advance. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Antikythera to Piraeus and drive northeast via the E75 and Egnatia motorway to Kavala, then take the ferry across to Thassos.
