Getting from Arki to Chios

If you are heading to Chios from Arki you are making your way from one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Dodecanese to one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean, relatively close in regional terms. It is famous above all for its mastic trees in the south of the island that produce a resin found nowhere else on earth.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Arki to Chios running in summer via the Dodekanisos Seaways network, which connects through Samos to the northeastern Aegean. The service runs a limited number of times per week. Alternatively, take the ferry from Arki to Samos and then connect to Chios by local ferry, which keeps the journey within the eastern Aegean without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Arki has no airport either. Taking the local ferry from Arki to Leros, flying to Athens and then Athens to Chios takes around 35 to 40 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Arki to Leros, fly to Athens and then fly to Chios. It is the fastest and most practical approach for most travelers. If you prefer to travel by sea, take the ferry from Arki to Samos and connect to Chios from there, which avoids Athens entirely. Check the ferry schedule from Arki carefully before booking as services run only a limited number of times per week. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Arki through the Dodecanese network to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Chios ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
