Getting from Astakos to Oinousses

If you are heading to Oinousses from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to a small cluster of islands just off the northeastern coast of Chios in the northeastern Aegean, on the opposite side of the country. It has a naval tradition that produced a disproportionate share of Greece's great shipping dynasties and almost no tourist infrastructure.

Oinousses has no airport. The nearest airport is Chios. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos to Athens and flying to Chios, followed by the local ferry to Oinousses taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Drive from Astakos to Athens, fly to Chios and take the local ferry across to Oinousses. Check the daily ferry schedule from Chios before booking your flights and plan your Chios arrival around the afternoon departure. Give yourself at least two nights on Oinousses and bring everything you need with you.
