Getting from Astypalaia to Evia

If you are heading to Evia from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to the second largest island in Greece, connected to the mainland by road bridges and within easy reach of Athens.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astypalaia to Evia. Getting there means taking the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus, which runs around 5 times a week and takes around 8 to 12 hours, and then either crossing the bridge at Halkida, around 90 kilometres from central Athens, or taking one of the short mainland to Evia ferry connections such as Rafina to Marmari, which takes around 1 hour, or Arkitsa to Loutra Edipsou in the north, which takes around 30 minutes. Alternatively fly from Astypalaia to Athens and then travel to Evia by road or short ferry.

Getting there by air

Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then traveling to Evia by road or short ferry gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours depending on which part of the island you are heading to. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and drive or take the bus across the bridge to Halkida. If you are heading to the southern coast, the ferry from Rafina to Marmari is a convenient connection close to Athens Airport. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and drive to whichever part of Evia suits your plans.
