Getting from Astypalaia to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Astypalaia you are making your way from a butterfly-shaped island between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to a Venetian-built harbour town on the Epirus coast, on the opposite side of Greece. It faces the Ionian Sea with good beaches and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astypalaia to Parga. Parga is a mainland coastal town with no connection to the Dodecanese ferry network. Getting there means taking the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus, which runs around 5 times a week and takes around 8 to 12 hours, and then driving or flying northwest to Parga. Alternatively fly from Astypalaia to Athens and then fly to Preveza and take a taxi or bus to Parga, which takes around 1 hour.

Getting there by air

Parga has no airport. The nearest airports are Preveza, around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina, around 103 kilometres east. Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Astypalaia to Athens and then Athens to Preveza, followed by a taxi or bus to Parga, gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly from Astypalaia to Athens and then fly to Preveza and take a taxi or bus to Parga. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Astypalaia to Piraeus and drive northwest via the E65 motorway to Parga, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.
