Getting from Chania to Milos

If you are heading to Milos from Chania you are making your way from the most intimate of Crete's three main cities to one of the most visually striking islands in the Cyclades, to the north. It has a volcanic coastline of white and ochre rock formations and beaches that look like nowhere else in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Chania to Milos running in summer, operated by Seajets, which takes around 2 hours 45 minutes and runs 1 to 2 times a week. It is one of the most convenient sea connections between western Crete and the Cyclades and avoids going through Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before booking as the service runs limited days per week. Alternatively take the overnight ferry from Chania to Piraeus and then the Piraeus to Milos ferry, which runs several times daily in summer.

Getting there by air

Milos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Chania has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Chania to Athens and then Athens to Milos takes around 40 to 45 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the seasonal direct ferry from Chania to Milos when the schedule works for your dates. At around 2 hours 45 minutes it is one of the most enjoyable and time efficient sea connections between western Crete and the Cyclades. If the timing does not align, fly from Chania to Athens and then fly to Milos. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Chania to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Milos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Adamas port.
