Getting from Chania to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Chania you are making your way from the most intimate of Crete's three main cities to a Venetian-built harbour town on the Epirus coast, on the opposite side of Greece. It faces the Ionian Sea with good beaches and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Getting there by air

Parga has no airport. The nearest airports are Preveza, around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina, around 103 kilometres east. Chania has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Chania to Athens and then Athens to Preveza, followed by a taxi or bus to Parga taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Chania to Parga. Parga is a mainland coastal town with no connection to the Crete ferry network. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight ferry from Chania to Piraeus, which takes around 8 to 9 hours, and then traveling northwest by road to Parga, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens. The total journey takes the better part of two days.

Your best option

Fly from Chania to Athens and then fly to Preveza and take a taxi or bus to Parga. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Chania to Piraeus and drive northwest via the E65 motorway to Parga, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.
