Getting from Chios to Kastellorizo
If you are heading to Kastellorizo from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to the easternmost point of Greece, a tiny island just off the Turkish coast in the Dodecanese with a harbour of neoclassical mansions, the extraordinary Blue Cave and an atmosphere of complete tranquility.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Chios to Kastellorizo. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight Chios to Piraeus ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 9 hours, and then boarding the Piraeus to Kastellorizo ferry, which runs 6 times a week and takes around 20 to 22 hours stopping at multiple Dodecanese islands along the way. A more practical sea approach is to take the ferry from Chios to Samos and connect south through the Dodecanese network to Rhodes and then Kastellorizo, though this still takes the better part of three days.
Getting there by air
Kastellorizo has its own small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kastellorizo gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly from Chios to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kastellorizo by air or local ferry. It is the fastest and most practical approach by a significant margin. Give yourself at least two nights on Kastellorizo. The island is small enough to walk around in an afternoon and extraordinary enough to make you want to stay much longer.
