Getting from Chios to Poros
If you are heading to Poros from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Chios to Poros. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight Chios to Piraeus ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 9 hours, and then boarding the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures. Alternatively fly from Chios to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros.
Getting there by air
Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly from Chios to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Chios to Piraeus and drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast, then take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
