Getting from Chios to Tinos
If you are heading to Tinos from Chios you are making your way from one of the most overlooked islands in the northeastern Aegean to an island in the central Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Chios to Tinos. Getting there by sea means taking the overnight Chios to Piraeus ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 9 hours, and then the ferry from Rafina to Tinos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours. Rafina is around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport making it a convenient connection without crossing the city to Piraeus. Alternatively take the ferry from Chios to Mykonos and then the short Mykonos to Tinos ferry, which takes around 30 minutes.
Getting there by air
Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Chios has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Flying from Chios to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos, followed by the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos taking around 30 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly from Chios to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city entirely. If you are traveling with a car, take the overnight ferry from Chios to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the port.
