Getting from Dokos to Aegina
If you are heading to Aegina from Dokos you are making your way from an uninhabited rocky island in the Saronic Gulf to the closest major island to Athens, in the same gulf. It has the best preserved ancient Greek temple in the country at Afaia, a thriving pistachio industry and a waterfront that fills up with Athenians every weekend.
Take the ferry
There are no scheduled ferries from Dokos. Dokos has no ferry service and is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, Spetses or Ermioni, with the crossing from Hydra taking around 30 minutes. Getting to Aegina means arranging a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra and then taking the Saronic ferry from Hydra towards Piraeus, disembarking at Aegina which sits on the same route, taking around 40 minutes to 1 hour from Hydra. Alternatively take the Saronic ferry all the way to Piraeus and then board the frequent Piraeus to Aegina service, which runs over 40 times daily in summer and takes around 40 minutes on the fast boat.
Getting there by air
Aegina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Dokos has no airport. Taking the water taxi from Dokos to Hydra and the Saronic ferry to Aegina gives a total journey time of around 1.5 to 2 hours and is the most direct and practical approach for this short Saronic Gulf connection.
Your best option
Arrange a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra before leaving the island and take the Saronic ferry directly to Aegina. It is the most natural and direct connection given that both islands sit in the same Saronic Gulf. Pre-arrange your water taxi departure as you cannot hail a boat once you are on Dokos.
