Getting from Donoussa to Fournoi

If you are heading to Fournoi from Donoussa you are making your way from one of the Small Cyclades to a cluster of small fishing islands between Ikaria and Samos in the eastern Aegean, on the opposite side of Greece. It has excellent seafood, quiet beaches and almost no tourist infrastructure.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Donoussa to Fournoi. Getting there means taking the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus, which runs around 3 to 6 times a week and takes around 7 to 8 hours, and then flying to Samos or Ikaria, followed by the local ferry to Fournoi, which takes under 1 hour from either island and runs daily in summer. Alternatively take the Donoussa to Astypalaia ferry and connect eastward through the island network, though this involves multiple changes and adds considerable time.

Getting there by air

Fournoi has no airport. The nearest airports are Samos and Ikaria, both with connections from Athens. Donoussa has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus and flying from Athens to Samos, followed by the local ferry to Fournoi, gives a total journey time of around 12 to 14 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Samos, then take the local ferry across to Fournoi. Check the Donoussa to Piraeus departure days before planning as the service runs a limited number of times per week. Give yourself at least two nights on Fournoi and come prepared as facilities on the island are limited.
