Getting from Donoussa to Naxos

If you are heading to Naxos from Donoussa you are making your way from one of the Small Cyclades to the largest island in the Cyclades, in the same island group and the most natural connection from the island. It has a medieval Venetian town above the port, long sandy beaches on the west coast and a mountainous interior of marble villages.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Donoussa to Naxos running on the Small Cyclades Lines and Blue Star routes, taking around 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes and running 4 to 7 times a week. It is the most natural and most used sea connection from Donoussa and keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades without going through Athens or Piraeus. The Express Skopelitis also serves this route on an almost daily basis in summer, making it one of the more reliable small island connections in the Cyclades.

Getting there by air

Naxos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Donoussa has no airport. The direct ferry connection is the most practical and enjoyable approach for this short island hop. Flying involves taking the ferry to Naxos anyway to reach the airport, making the sea connection the natural choice.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Donoussa to Naxos. At around 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes it is the most natural and direct connection from the island. The Express Skopelitis runs almost daily in summer making this one of the more reliable connections in the Small Cyclades. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days and times vary by season and between operators. The arrival by sea with the Portara temple doorframe visible from the water is one of the great Cycladic arrivals.
