Getting from Elafonisos to Athens
If you are heading to Athens from Elafonisos you are making your way from a small island off the southern Peloponnese coast to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to.
Take the ferry
Elafonisos has no ferry connection to the wider Greek ferry network. The only ferry from Elafonisos is the short 10 minute crossing to Pounta on the southern Peloponnese, which runs every 30 minutes in summer. Getting to Athens means taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and then driving north via Tripoli and Corinth to Athens, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours. Alternatively take the KTEL bus from Neapoli to Athens via Sparta, though the bus journey is considerably longer and requires a change.
Getting there by air
Elafonisos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens, around 3.5 to 4 hours by car from Pounta. The drive is the most practical approach for this connection given that Athens is the destination itself.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and drive north to Athens via Tripoli and Corinth. At around 3.5 to 4 hours it is the most direct and practical approach. Having a car is the most comfortable option as the KTEL bus connection from Pounta requires a change at Neapoli or Sparta and takes considerably longer. From Athens you have access to the full flight and ferry network for onward connections across Greece.
