Getting from Elafonisos to Kylini
If you are heading to Kylini from Elafonisos you are making your way from a small island off the southern Peloponnese coast to a port town on the northwestern Peloponnese coast, on the opposite side of the Peloponnese. It has a long sandy beach and the medieval castle of Chlemoutsi nearby, one of the best preserved Frankish fortifications in Greece.
Take the ferry
Elafonisos has no ferry connection to the wider Greek ferry network. The only ferry from Elafonisos is the short 10 minute crossing to Pounta on the southern Peloponnese, which runs every 30 minutes in summer. Getting to Kylini means taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and then driving northwest through the Peloponnese via Tripoli, Corinth and Patras to Kylini, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours from Pounta. This avoids Athens entirely and is a straightforward road journey across the Peloponnese.
Getting there by air
Kylini has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Elafonisos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and driving northwest to Kylini gives a total journey time of around 4 to 4.5 hours and avoids Athens entirely. Flying is not a practical option for this route. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and drive northwest through the Peloponnese to Kylini via Tripoli, Corinth and Patras. At around 4 to 4.5 hours it avoids Athens entirely and is the most direct road approach. Having a car is essential for this route as the KTEL bus connection from Pounta is slow and infrequent. Kylini is the main departure point for ferries to Zakynthos and Kefalonia making it a useful hub if you are continuing your journey into the Ionian islands.
